Jigga what? Fitness Friday? What the deuce is this all about? K, before I tell you that, let me tell you about this: a special little somethin’ somethin’ on the horizon, namely
My Birthday next week +
a whole week of GIVEAWAYS!
Yep – turns out that the day I came bouncing into the world wearing nothin’ but my birthday suit is next week! Soooo, we’re having a week-long G.B.O. Fashion Birthday Bonanza! And what did we need for it to qualify as a ‘Bonanza’? A Whole Week of Giveaways, of course! That’s right. Every day next week – Giveaway Heaven. SO DON’T MISS OUT! Tell your friends, tell one tell all!
Now, let’s talk about…
Fitness Friday!
Here’s the deal guys – really what it comes down to is this: I just really, really need a kick in the pants. And not just for my fitness goals – I need it for ALL of my goals. You know – those ones we set at the beginning of the year that we feel gun-hoe about for like 7 minutes until life starts happening again and all those things we wanted to improve on or be proactive about suddenly start getting glossed over and forgotten? Yeah – you know the ones. Those ones.
See, today is February 1st. This date might not mean anything to you, but for muwah, historically this is the day when I realize that a month has gone by, my new year’s goals are still buried in some journal (or blog post) somewhere, and the progress I’ve made toward reaching them is falling into the full-fledged Pathetic category. And again – I’m not talking just about silly fitness goals here. I’m talking the whole gamete – all of the interpersonal, professional, spiritual, financial, familial, other things that end with ‘ial’ stuff as well.
SO – I had this idea to put myself on a Six-Week Challenge. Not just for the physical/health/fitness stuff. But for all the other things as well. Basically, a re-examination of what goals we had set at the beginning of the year and where we’re at with those. I wanted to set some firm fitness goals that I’d share with you, reiterate my ‘new year’s’ goals to you (and revise them as needed), then check in with you each week for the next 6 weeks. Fitness Friday therefore would pertain not only to our physical fitness, but to our TOTAL fitness – the fitness of our minds, our spirits, our emotions, our motivations…. all of those places that reside and tick within the inner most part of ourselves.
AND I WANTED YOUR OPINION: a) Does this sound like a good idea? Something that would be helpful/motivating/beneficial for anyone else besides me? b) Do you want to be involved somehow as well? Could we make this a group effort somehow? Would we want to go so far as to get people to commit to the 6 week challenge and then at the end of it we’d do some cool giveaway or ‘hurrah for us’ type of thing? Is that overcomplicating it maybs? c) What kinds of things would you want to see/read about/learn from Fitness Friday posts? Workout plans? Best practices for goal reaching? Anecdotes of my personal experiences and what I’m learning through this process? Or maybe we don’t curr too much about that cuz what the deuce do I know? What would YOU be excited to have me blog about during this little 6 week challenge? Fill a sista in! d) Secretly, I want to do try out a different ‘alternative’ dessert each week and then do a review on it. Since sugar is my absolute strongest demise and I’ve honestly been in the habit of eating 2-3 cookies + a pack of Starbursts every night right before bed (sexy right?), I want to try to find something that I’d enjoy as much as my regular night time treats but that is more healthy. Ideas?
I’ve decided something: I’ve decided that it’s time to take back the reigns. To stop feeling like a creature of my circumstances (or mood, or weaknesses, or fears, or vulnerabilities) and to start creating my circumstances – with everything. Creating them through my faith, through the power of my thoughts, and through a gosh darn iron-willed determination. The truth is I have a vision of the type of person I want to be… the type of person I feel I have it in me to be… indeed, even the type of person I feel I’m expected to be. And the deeper truth is: I feel like I’ve been accepting a lower standard from myself for a long, long time now. And it doesn’t feel good. Turns out it doesn’t feel good at all.
SO – that’s the point of this whole thang! To take control of the reigns again! To give myself that extra kick in the keister I need to be the person I want to be and do the things I want to do.

Great idea! You got this girl. I did the same thing 1.5 years ago and I am still going strong! I lost 45 pounds since my wedding (2 years ago) and it’s all because I got on a schedule and it became a ritual.
Sometimes, you don’t want to work out, but sometimes you just need to push yourself out of your comfort zone and know that ultimately it’s the best for you. There is nothing wrong with rest days, splurging a little, living life, but you want to live your best life possible and healthy eating, lifestyle, and outlook is the way to go!
I know you can do it! Set small goals first and then work your way up because if you start too strong and don’t get to where you want then you can discouraged and go back to old ways. Baby steps and iron-willed determination will get you there 🙂

I’m totally in. I would love if you did this. I am trying to keep up with my goals and am doing…okay. I’m with you, our goals need to be rounded—working on all things good for me too. On your Friday post I would be interested in seeing healthy dinner ideas, and/or especially ways to motivate and stay on track with your goals…why do we have goals? What’s the pay out? How do you run that extra mile? Love you, always.

I like it! I’m currently looking for alternative treats myself. I do have a few already, but how is MORE treats that a good for you not a good thing? Also, with a post baby bod most likely in a matter of two weeks it will be nice to read a workout motivational post. Not that I don’t absolutely love the style advice, ideas #ootd humor, ect, but I think you and all women know what I mean. In short, I’m in favor of your fitness (goal) fridays!

Definitely! Can’t wait to read more about your progress!

Just discovered your blog and love it!
I think what would be awesome if you focused on being strong and healthy without pictures of “perfect” bodies. It’s probably the therapist in me talking;) but I feel like the focus should be on being strong and healthy and making healthy choices for your body regardless of shape or size.
Just my two cents;)

Kudos, to your effort, and rejuvenation.
What makes the problem almost insurmountable is the
disparate base upon which the changes must be made.
Other words, train hard yes, eat well, as in home cooked food.
Ignore the soaps and fashion mags. Be true to your self!
Avoid vitamin’s !!!
All the very best – keep looking great,
