Guys, Fitness Friday officially begins today!
Are we ready for this?
Okay!
Here’s how this is gonna go:
Fitness Friday will run from February 15th to March 29th.
That’s Six Weeks peeps! Let’s do this thang.
But FIRST… Enter the Giveaway for HICKIES!
Check these bad boys out – the most delightful thing for your athletic shoes since, well, laces? Except these things are SO much cooler than laces.
(oh, and don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom of the post to find out who won last week’s Birthday Giveaways!)
So Let’s Talk About…
Goal Setting!
What works
*Set Realistic Goals – Are they vague? Is your end date too far in the future? Are they too challenging? Not challenging enough?
*Pick an End Date – Deadlines are essential to staying motivated. You can readjust end dates if needed, but always have one.
*Appreciate ‘failures’ – Instead of berating yourself for perceived ‘failures’, ask yourself: What can I learn from this? Then focus on applying those key learnings to do just a little bit better the next hour, the next day, and the next week.
*Set Positive Goals Instead of Negative Goals – Instead of setting a goal to “lose weight”, which is a Negative Nancy approach because you’re focusing on what you don’t want, change it to a statement about what you DO want, like ‘be more respectful toward my body’.
*Narrow it Down – Adopt the motto ‘Do Fewer Things Better’. Setting too many goals spreads you thin and makes it hard to focus. Instead, prioritize your goals, then pick the top 2-3 to focus on.
*Define the Challenges – What are the obstacles going to be? What has caused you to miss this goal in the past? Identify those potential challenges and make a battle plan for conquering them.
*Set Short Term Goals – as a way to reach the bigger goals! This here Six-Week Challenge would be perfect that!
*Ditch the ‘All or Nothing’ mentality – Life is not black and white peeps. Make progress your goal – not perfection.
*Understand the WHY – What’s your reason for setting this goal? Why do you want it? How will it add value to your life and the lives of others? Try to drill down to the root of your desire.
And most importantly…
*Think POSITIVE! – We’ve all heard about the concept of self-fulfilling prophecy. Well, believe it peeps! Reinforce the positive. Focus more on what you’re doing right than on what you’re doing ‘wrong’. Celebrate even the tiniest ‘Wins’. Choose to believe that good things are gonna happen.
K guys – what other tips have YOU found to be particularly helpful in reaching your goals? What has worked for you?
Accountability Time!
These were my ‘New Year’s Resolutions’:
*Keep a ‘Charity journal’ and make that attribute my focus this year
*Meaningful prayers on my knees morning & night
*Run a 10K
*Try to get knocked up
*Read for 15 minutes before bed each night
*Take an international trip with husband
*Keep setting weekly and daily goals and review with self & husband. Revise, re-set, and recommit as needed.
And these are my Fitness Goals:
*Drink 1 gallon of water per day
*Honor my hunger: Eat when I’m hungry. Stop when I’m full.
*Make a more committed and valiant attempt to follow my meal plan – but do it for the sake of how it makes me feel, NOT because of how it will effect my mid-section.
*Lift weights 4-5 days per week. Cardio 2 days per week.
*Try out a different late night dessert each week to try to find a cookie replacement that actually satisfies (cuz this girl needs a sweet before bed. She just does.)
*Try out a different vegetable recipe each week to try to find a delicious way to consume vegetables (cuz right now I secretly kinda loathe the things. And I rarely eat them, truth.)
*16-17% body fat by the end of the 6 weeks.
So there ya go! Hold me accountable, ok guys?
Key Learnings from Last Week:
a) Having cute workout clothes really DOES make a difference. Head to Forever 21 for some cheap updates to your gym wear! (and enter the Hickies Giveaway above to add some spice to your tenni shoes!)
b) Going more than 3-4 hours without eating something inevitably means I will be ravenously devouring tortilla chips, cookies, and starbursts later.
Sweatshirt: H&M | Workout Pants: Forever 21 | Long Tank: Forever 21 ($4!) | Nikes: some athletic shoe store in Utah | Aviators: Forever 21
Dessert of the Week:
HELP!
Anyone have great ideas of deeeeelicious but low calorie treats? That are fairly easy to make?
