I’ve been getting asked a lot what I actually DO for my workouts.
So on that front, let’s talk about…
Weight Lifting
Yep – you read right. I said Weight Lifting for women! THAT is what I do for my workouts. That more so than anything. Why? I’ll tell ya why. It’s because…
The truth is this guys: admittedly, the ‘eating clean’part of being fit has NEVER been easy for me. BUT – I’ve found that weight lifting is my saving grace. Now hold up – don’t get me wrong here – NO amount of working out will make up for constant crap eating. BUT, I gotta admit that once I started really getting into lifting weights, I felt like I had a little more leeway in the kitchen. Take a look at THIS…
These days, I TRY to lift about 4-5 days a week and do cardio twice a week (when I’m being real diligent. If we’re being honest, some weeks I don’t ever get to the cardio. Woops.). I’ve tried lots of different strategies but my favorite is approaching weight lifting by doing what’s called body part splits – where I focus on a different body part for each lifting session. Shoulders one day, legs one day, biceps/triceps one day, Back one day, and Chest one day. I try to switch up my routine every six weeks or so.
So how do you put together a killer lifting routine? Well, there are TONS of great resources online that have already done that for you! Just snag one of those bad boys! For the record, the first time of my life that I really started lifting regularly was back in high school, and I got my workout from a magazine – probably Shape or Self or one of those. It was an article about what Britney Spears did for HER workout, and it gave a whole routine. And THAT’s what I did. And it WORKED! It was awesome. Point being: there’s tons of great stuff online to get you started. Here are a few good resources for you:
a) Self Magazine. This mag ROCKS guys. I honestly love it. It provides TONS of great workouts, tips, and ideas.
b) BodyBuilding.com. Don’t let the name freak you out. This site has answers to just about everything and will give you all sorts of great ideas if you want to do a body part split (or anything else for that matter!).
c) Pinterest! Of course, right? But seriously – there’s SO much good stuff on there it’s ridiculous. Follow my ‘Fitness Inspiration‘ board if you’d like!
d) If you can spare a teensy, weeeeeensy bit of extra cash, my number one suggestion would be to get yo’self a personal trainer. But not just ANY personal trainer. THIS personal trainer. Lindsey is a dear friend of mine, but she’s also the genius behind my workouts. She writes them up for me so that all the guess work is removed. And let me tell you guys – it helps sooooooo much! If you’re interested, give Lindsey a holler and tell her that GBO Fashion sent you!
Sooooooo… what are YOUR thoughts about weight lifting? Do you do it? Would you try it? What questions do you have?! Holler at me! And good luck in ALL your goals this week- fitness and otherwise!

Weight lifting is one of the best ways to get your body in the shape that you want it! I weight lift almost every day and just switch up what I do. Less weight, more reps and you will see a huge difference in your appearance 🙂

I am definitely a fan of lifting weights. I really want to do Crossfit- a couple of my friends have had some AMAZING results. However, I live far, far away from anything like crossfit, so I find some things on Pinterest and do my own thing.
Exercising makes such a huge difference in life. To me, someone who is fit will almost always look better than someone who is skinny.

I LOVE weight lifting (I hate cardio) – so I build muscle with weights lifting for my arms and lots of ab work (crunches). Then since I hate working out my legs I go to Pilates class (my teacher tends to focus on legs quite a bit) so that I get them worked out! It’s a perfect mix for me.

This was juuuust the motivation I needed to get myself in gear! I can’t even remember the last time I lifted weights (even baby two pounders…sad), so I better add that to my list, too.

I love that you wrote about this and straight out said that you do weight lifting!! I work out with my boyfriend so I do the same workouts he does but with lighter weights and I love how toned I am. Woman are scared of looking bulky but just do more reps and don’t go crazy insane working out lol. I say reps because I did P90X and I did more reps and I loved the result. Toned and fit not huge and scary.
