Four Tips to Better Blog Photos

Hey you guys I’m Kirsten from K&R. You also may have been seeing some of my pictures around here cause I’m a photographer! You can see my work at knw photography. Shannon asked me to post something about photography, so I thought I would share 4 tips to better blog photos. These are tips you can use if you use your phone, DSLR, point and shoot – whatever you have, these are tips that you can apply.

 

Tip 1: Edit your photos. I don’t like to do a ton of editing, but just a small amount of editing can help clean up your photos. I actually cropped both these photos a bit which totally helped clean them up. Then I added some curves and contrast and increase the exposure. It was real quick, but it just cleans up the photo.

Tip 2: Use natural light, if possible. I love natural light, you can probably do a bunch of editing to make fluorescent light to make it look better (ok I know you can), but if possible use natural light. It will totally help keep your images looking clean and more clear.

Tip 3: Use a simple background. For the most part I love white simple backgrounds, it will make your items pop. In other circumstances you can try to clear away clutter or find a less chaotic background for your images. There’s a time and place for patterns and fun backgrounds, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple.

Tip 4: Don’t forget the details and cropping. For the most part I do all my cropping when shooting, but you can always crop after. Cropping and using different angles gives your photos variety. Also focus on details, it helps you get more variety as well.
