Sooooo, if you follow me on Instagram or read this post on the blog, you probs know that me and hubby and his family went on a cruise to the Caribbean back in August. In a word you guys, the trip was awwwwwwwwwwesome. Like, beyond awesome. And frankly, every cruise I’ve ever been on has been completely amaze-balls. The Caribbean cruise was my third. Chase and I went on a short, three-day cruise down to Ensenada when I was pregnant with Jack as our little ‘baby moon’, and then waaaay back in the day I went on a Mediterranean cruise at the tail end of a study abroad I had done in London. Hashtag EPIC. All of them. So epic in fact that I thought it would be worth it to share with you guys a few key reasons to go on a cruise – especially if you’ve never been on one before. So here we go…
6 Reasons to go on a Cruise:
- It’s one of the most cost effective ways to vacation. Seriously, what vacation can you take where all your food, lodging, and entertainment is right there in one place, already bought and paid for before the trip even begins? I really do believe that cruises are one of the most budget friendly ways to take a truly epic vacay.
- Food. All you can eat, 24/7 access to soooo. muuuuuuch. foooooood. Need I say more? The quality can vary a little, but generally speaking, the cruises I’ve been on had pretty decent eats… evident by the 10 lbs I’ve gained every single time (yikes).
- You get to see multiple locations but only have to unpack once! If you’re going on a multi-destination trip, is unpacking and then packing back up again not one of the worst parts of the travel? I personally think so. Cruises are fab because you get to see multiple locations but don’t have to worry about moving anything. Score!
- Lots of things to do. We’re talking swimming, hot tubbing, slides, live entertainment (comedians, musicians, theatre, magicians, etc.), on-shore excursions, spas, karoke, bingo, dancing, arcades, and my personal favorite, evening movies on the big screen out on the deck. I’ve heard that some cruise lines now even have things like rock-climbing walls and ice skating rinks on deck (yes I said an ice skating rink). Crazy, no? Seems like it doesn’t matter who you are – there is something for pretty much anyone on a cruise.
- Easy to plan. When you’re cruising, you don’t have to worry about planning hotel accommodations, transportation, food – none of it! It’s all right there for you, and you already paid for all of it. Boo-yah!
- You can go any time of year. No matter the season, there’s always cruise lines going a million different places. Somewhere warm if you’re craving that, somewhere cold if you’re craving that, somewhere tropical, somewhere historic, somewhere far away, somewhere nearby… well, you get the idea.
A Couple Other Notes:
- Worried about motion sickness? Don’t be. K, well I guess I shouldn’t make a broad blanket statement like that, but I am definitely someone who struggles with motion sickness, and I’ve never once had that issue on a cruise. The ship is so big, you hardly feel the movement – and when you do, it’s so minimal, it’s never made me sick. Worst case scenario, pack yourself some Dramamine and you should be good to go.
- A little bit nervous about big bodies of water? Don’t be. Again, this applies to me. I have a teeny bit of a water phobia. However, I have felt totally safe on the cruise ships I’ve been on. The massiveness of those things provides a pretty solid sense of security. Now I’m going to go knock on wood so I don’t jinx myself!
So what do you think guys? Are you cruise fans? Have you been? Would you go? Let me know if you have any questions! Love you all long time.
Have a Tuba Tuesday!
Thanks for reading.

Never been! As I imagine only old people being on a big ship having bingo nights haha. What do you say to this cliche?
Shannon Willardson says
Totally NOT how our cruise experiences have been! Sure, there are old people, and there’s bingo (which was actually a total blast), but there’s a huge young crowd as well – more so than the older folks I’d say! Dooooooo it! 🙂
