You better believe that under that flirty little dress there is the most hard-core, we-mean-business pair of Spanks my money could buy. I’m not trying to fool anybody – these days that tummy needs a little help from its friends. #realtalkbaby
Happy Saturday you guys! I’m doing this weird thing and posting today, mostly because I fell asleep Thursday night before I could finish this bad boy for Friday like I had originally planned. Oops. As a fun side-note though, it also happens to be my birthday today! Woot! It’s kind of a big birthday too. Today I turn… deep breaths… I turn… innnnn — ouuuuut, innnn — ouuuuut… I turn thirty. I turn thirty today guys. Holy crap balls, I mean just seeing that written and knowing it’s true – it slays me a little. My feelings about the whole thing have run the emotional gamete. It started as dread (as in ‘Ugggg – that’s coming up. Woof.), then migrated to denial (‘Don’t think about it, don’t think about it’), then a lil’ bit of fear and anxiety (‘Am I really not going to be in my 20’s any more? Wahhhhh!’). More recently though, I am slowly but surely finding my way to a place of acceptance, and dare I say, even excitement. To try to fan the flame of those sentiments a bit more, I thought I’d share with you 5 reasons why turning 30 doesn’t even have to suck. I thought about doing 30 reasons, but let’s be serious – no one wants to read 30 reasons, and, well, I couldn’t think of that many. But I did come up with 5! Here they are…
5 Reasons Why Turning 30 Doesn’t Even Suck:
1. The saying isn’t ‘Twenty, flirty and thriving.’ It’s ‘Thirty, flirty and thriving.’ Enough said.
2. Thirty = I have a big girl job now, and big girl job = occasionally I can shop at places other than Forever21 and Target without feeling too guilty about it.
3. I’ll have the rest of my babies while I’m in my thirties (God willing!)
4. Thirties are the new twenties. I have no idea what that actually means exactly, but I like the way it sounds, so I’ll take it.
5. Thirties = more wise, more settled, more at peace with self, more aware of what matters and what doesn’t, more likely to make good choices instead of really dumb ones etc.
That’s what I got so far! For all you mamas who have passed the threshold and entered thirty-ville, what are your thoughts on the matter? How do the thirties stack up to your twenties? Help a sista out and share some more reasons why it’s not lame! I may or may not still need a bit of convincing (if we’re being perfectly honest here).

FABULOUS lacey red dress! Lace is so on point for V-day. Also, Happy Birthday! I love the first saying, and I think that every year you get past your early twenties, you just feel more confident, less broke, and happier with yourself. Here’s to being older and more fabulous <3

Happy birthday! I turned thirty last spring and I had the same reaction as you. Then I realized that I had accomplished all the major goals I has set in life: I graduated from college, I was able to travel quite a bit, I had a job I loved, I married a wonderful man, and I was pregnant with my first baby. I felt really blessed. And then there are the perks, like feeling comfortable in my own skin (finally!) and feeling a bit more refined than I was in my twenties (hopefully).
Here’s to your new phase of thirty, flirty and thriving!

I just read this and realized how obnoxiously boastful I sound. My apologies to everyone who read this and gagged while rolling their eyes. My point is that I had to focus on what I was grateful for when I turned 30, otherwise I would’ve sat in front of the mirror crying while counting my new wrinkles and dark spots 🙂

Haha – TARA! Don’t you worry girl – you didn’t sound obnoxious to me at all. I actually really appreciated your comment cuz our situation at 30 sounds basically identical actually. Blessed indeed. Good reminder that there ain’t nothin to be sad about! Except maybe the wrinkles… yeah a lil’ sad about the wrinkles – just gonna admit it. 😉 xoxoxo
