Ok guys – it’s time to face reality: the end of the summer is here. I hate to be the one to break that to you, but it’s true! Secretly I always have such mixed feelings about summer’s end. Fall is my absolute favorite, so I get really excited for that. BUT, I think we can all agree that there’s a universal lament in relinquishing the carefree, fun-filled days of summer. Plus, there’s something mildly depressing about re-entering the routine phase of school and regular work hours. It’s a grind. I’ve teamed up with Target today to perform a little use-case on ‘post summer perk ups’… a.k.a how can I pull summer vibes into my home so that those fabulous memories of vacay and sunshine perpetuate past the season’s end? Here’s how I attempted that in our bedroom! While this is definitely still a work in progress (I’ll be pointing out where we’re still inserting/adding/rearranging things), I can say that the little changes/additions we’ve made have made a difference. Perk up mission: successful. Hopefully you’ll feel like you can apply some of these ideas to your space as well!
- K, first of all, I love Target’s Threshold line. Do you guys know this one? It’s so good. A lot of what I find myself drawn to at Target ends up being Threshold stuff. So if you haven’t checked out that line, do it!
- Secondly, since our bed is the focal point of our bedroom, I started there. It’s amazing what a swap-a-roo of your bedding and throw pillows will do for achieving a ‘freshened up’ feeling. We already had this white Threshold duvet cover (no longer available, similar here) from Target, which I have absolutely loved. If you’ve ever questioned whether to do white as your bedspread, I highly recommend it. Even with our 16 month old, it’s stayed fairly clean, and you can’t beat the summery freshness of white. Then we added these throw pillows for a bright, summery pop of color. I fell in love with this coral geometric pillow and the citron accented geo one (I couldn’t find the other one online, dang it! Loving these similar ones here, here, here, and here though). Finally, Target has some amazing throws. We added some texture to the bed with a little layering – two throws from Target (here and here) and a little token faux fur. And voila! Our bed felt like it had gotten a complete makeover. Summer: perpetuated. Shannon: happy.
- Centerpiece above the bed: Um, yeah – so husband didn’t exactly get around to hanging this for me and I’m apparently incompetent, BUT we plan to hang this mirror right above the bed, and I’m really excited about it. Our bare walls have needed some love for quite some time, and this mirror looks expensive but is such a steal (only $40!). I think it’s going to add so much to the space.
- Side tables: mine are still a work in progress (um, hello? put some pictures in your frames for goodness sake Shannon. #ooops #somanyframesthatneedpicsinmyhouserightnow), but, side-tables are one of my favorite things to decorate. Target has some really cute ones. I kept the nightstand tables I already had but exchanged the clutter that had been there for some pretty details.
- Last but not least, a sexy whicker basket can be a great way to hold things like extra pillows and blankets so that your bedroom doesn’t become a hot mess real fast. I couldn’t find the one here online (got it in my local Target store), but loved this one too.
- To be completed: We have this bedskirt ordered (wasn’t available in our local Target) because clearly we need one, and I plan on swapping our current polka dot Threshold sheets (that I also love) for these ones, simply because I love me a geometric print and it pulls in the coral. Those large Euro pillows need white covers on them (embarrassing). And a headboard would be really nice, buuuuuuut let’s not get too ambitious Shannon (haha). Some day. Some day.
So what do you think you guys? Did we pull it off? Does it look like summer in my bedroom? Do you feel less depressed? Will this offset the grind a bit? K, maybe those are pretty loaded asks (you mean a decor switch in my bedroom is suddenly prozac? Mmmmk Shannon). All I can say is that it’s doin’ something for us, and when you love the space that you spend a lot of time in, your mood inevitably follows. I am convinced of that. Whether you’re trying to emulate a specific season or just freshen your space so that it’s a bit more chic, look to Target for achieving that without breaking the bank. They really are the best (can you tell I’m obsessed?).
Have a Frilly Friday!
