2. Who are your fashion icons?— Caroline Issa, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Olsen twins, and Olivia Palermo.

3. Where do you go for fashion inspiration? — Blogs, magazines, pinterest, instagram, and mannequins at J.crew.

4. What are the top three places you shop?– Zara, J.crew, and H&M. 

5. What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?— Boyfriend denim, distressed tee, cardigan, and oversized sunglasses to hide my raccoon eyes.

6.  What do you seek to achieve when you dress?— I really try to put forth the effort to dress up everyday as if it’s an important day. When I do this I undoubtedly feel better about myself and more confident. 

7.  Would you say you have a ‘signature’ style?  If so, what are the main elements?-– my friends all know me as the top-knot girl. I suppose that would be my signature style…

8.  How do you think others can achieve a truly individual/unique style?– Trying out different styles and find out what you feel best in is a great start. We dress up to make ourselves feel a certain way. In the process, if you find that you feel like a million bucks wearing crocs and a pleated skirt, great for you! It’s whatever floats your boat.  

9.  How would you say your style has changed over the last 5 years?– I don’t drop $200~ on a pair of denim anymore. Remember that one brand everyone wore? The horse shoe like U stitched up on the back pockets? I’m too embarrassed to even say the name of that brand. Thankfully that awful phase is over. 

11.  Do you follow trends?  If so, what trends excite you at the moment?— Yes! I’m a trend whore. I love my classic items, but love incorporating trend in my outfits to make it more current. I’m really excited about leather, pop-art, and brocade trend this season. 

12.  What are some challenges you feel like you face in dressing the way you *want* to dress?— The place I currently live definitely force me to surpress my urges to dress truly the way I want. I was raised in Tokyo– which is one of the biggest fashion capitals in the world. Fashion is a big part of their culture and people don’t judge others by the way they dress, so it was normal for me to dress whatever and however way I wanted. But Utah is the complete opposite when it comes to fashion. I can’t go out wearing sneaker wedges and cropped palazzo pants to the store without having people stare at me as if I’ve lost my mind. No one would notice if I walked into a store in Japan in the same outfit. Finding a healthy balance between the way I want to dress and have people be able to digest what they would see on me is a continuous challenge. 

13.  What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?– I don’t think I’m in a place where I can give tips, but if I have to say one thing, it would be to spend money on shoes and bags. Even if your whole outfit came from Target it’ll make your cheap ensemble look more expensive.
