Homegirl has got style, charm, an adorable blog, and on top of it all she is sugary sweet! Which is why Amy of Coffee Beans & Bobby Pins is this week’s
Style Crush!
How would you describe your style?
Sporadic. I have always loved clothing/accessories. Although we’ve all had those “I have nothing to wear” moments, getting dressed is such a fun way to determine who you’ll be for the day or night. Although I gravitate more towards classic/feminine looks, sometimes it’s so fun to try on a new style like rock, tomboyish, or boho for the night.
Who are your fashion icons?
I love Lauren Conrad, everything she puts on seems so wearable and real. Olivia Palermo is another gal with some great threads, and of course, who can forget the classic like Jackie O or Audrey?
Where do you go for fashion inspiration?
Honestly, I love looking at magazines and celebrities for inspiration, but the true places I turn to are Pinterest or my blogroll. I love seeing how different women wear the same or similar pieces that are actually affordable for us non-celebs. That’s the great thing about blogging- everyone is such an inspiration whether they realize it or not.
What are the top three places you shop?
My favorite store is by far J.Crew. If I had infinite closet space and money (every girls dream right?), I would stock my whole closet with their pieces. They always get it right and everything is so classic. However, for more affordable pieces, I love GAP and ASOS. Even stores like Marshalls and TJMAXX are always on my radar for unique items.
What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?
Skinny jeans, my black blazer, a great structured blouse and pair of heels- no matter how many times I wear this combo, I always feel confident and put together.
Do you follow trends? If so, what trends excite you at the moment?
I think everyone does to a certain extent. The important thing is finding the trends that work for you and your body. I never used to wear skinny jeans because I have a huge complex about my legs, but then one day, I discovered the right pair. If it’s a trend like neon last summer, I’ll try to find inexpensive items first to try them out. I never splurge on something I’m not quite sure of or that I’m confident will only be around one season. I like to save my pennies for the classics.
Why is the way you look/dress important to you?
Feeling good in your clothes doesn’t only do your body justice, but it does wonderful things for the mind. When I don’t feel confident in what I’m wearing whether it’s too revealing, tight, etc. I feel insecure about myself and then it’s reflected in my perspective for the day.
What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?
In my opinion, every woman needs a blazer, pair of jeans that fit well and a great pair of shoes. These are classic pieces that will never go out of style and you will get a great return on investment out of. Also, don’t worry too much about staying on trend. It’s important to dress for yourself and no one else. Wear what makes YOU feel confident! Something you wear could always be the next big thing!
What made you want to start a blog?
My husband is a medical student and is always at the hospital or studying. I have a lot of free time to myself and I had been following blogs for about two years when I thought to myself “hey, I have lots of clothes and time, I should totes do this. I could showcase affordable looks for everyday women.” I ran the idea by my best friend and Mr. and they were so supportive. I started about a week later.
What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?
a. Build Relationships and network with other bloggers. Even in the short time I’ve been doing this, I feel like I’ve made some great blogging friends (Shannon included!).
b. Don’t worry about the numbers. If you love what you do (which I do!), the numbers will come because people will genuinely like to hear what you’re saying.
c. Use social media. Why? Because it’s fun to follow IG and Facebook, so why not use it to your advantage? <come follow me while you’re at it> J
Anything further you’d like to add?
I may never be the best or biggest blog out in the blogsphere, but I really love my readers and appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, etc that they send me on a daily basis. Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins has become such a passion of mine and I just want to thank Shannon for featuring me today! What an honor!
