A hilarious blogger with cutie-patootie style? Hmmmm… that sounds right up my alley! I mean, hello – the name of this fashionista’s blog is The Sequined Spaniel – how can we not be completely infatuated? Oh – turns out WE ARE. Which is why Amanda is this week’s
Style Crush!
Read below for her tips on fashion and blogging. And then go follow her dang blog. Hollah!
1. How would you describe your style?
I never thought this question would be so hard to answer! I would say my personal style blends classic and modern with a girly, colorful twist. And to quote my husband’s answer when I asked for his thoughts: shiny!
2. Who are your fashion icons?
I’d love to say Blake Lively or Olivia Palermo because they always look amazing, but I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re my “icons.” Celebrity fashion just really isn’t my thing. I don’t have a personal stylist or millions of dollars, so I find it to be irrelevant. My fashion icons are real women that I can relate to.
3. Where do you go for fashion inspiration?
I most often draw inspiration from Pinterest and my blogroll, but I also really like magazines that feature affordable fashion, like Lucky and People Style Watch. While it’s fun to look at fashion blogs with designer clothing and high fashion magazines like Vogue, I think it’s important to focus on finding inspiration in more realistic outlets.
4. What are the top three places you shop?
The top three places I wish I could shop: J. Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, kate spade
The top three places I actually shop: J. Crew (lower priced pieces and sale section) Target, and eBay
5. What’s your ‘Go-To’ outfit for when you need to get ready in a flash?
Skinny jeans, my favorite polka dot blouse, espadrille wedges and statement jewelry. Another spring favorite is colored denim, striped t-shirt, a blazer/cardigan, ballerina flats, and long, layered necklaces. In the summer, I love throwing on a maxi skirt, plain t-shirt, jeweled sandals, a neon crossbody bag, and a no-fuss top knot!
6. Do you follow trends? If so, what trends excite you at the moment?
My current favorites are peplum, metallic accents, neon colors, top knots, captoe shoes, and bold colored/printed pants!
7. Why is the way you look/dress important to you?
I truly feel my best when I look my best. I like feeling pretty, which translates to feeling confident and cheerful. For me, that means curly hair, a flattering, feminine outfit, a pair of high heels, and a smile topped off with pink lipstick!
8. What fashion or styling tips would you give to women who want to improve their sense of style?
Accessorize! Accessories can magically transform any outfit. Even jeans and a t-shirt can be chic when you add interest with wedge sandals, a bright crossbody bag, a skinny belt, an armful of bangles, a statement necklace and cat-eye sunglasses!
9. What made you want to start a blog?
I began reading fashion blogs several years ago and was instantly hooked. I love fashion and shopping, and I also love to read, so it became a natural part of my life. But I never dreamed I would actually have my own. I guess I just never thought I could. All the blogs I read were highly successful, and I think I was a little intimidated by those standards. My husband kept encouraging me and finally convinced me to start my own, and I couldn’t be happier that he did!
10. What are the top three tips you’d give to bloggers wanting to build their following?
I have only been blogging for a little over three months, so I definitely don’t have it all figured out! Three things I have learned so far:
a) Be consistent with your posts. Decide how often you want to publish new posts and do your best to stick to it. I would advise 3 per week at minimum; I strive for 5 per week. People want to follow blogs that consistently share new material.
b) Spell check! Use correct grammar! Nothing bugs me more than reading a blog with bad writing.
c) Network, network, network! Reach out to other bloggers. Advertise on blogs similar to yours. Participate in giveaways. Comment on blogs you admire. Join blogging organizations. Utilize social media.
11. Anything further you’d like to add?
