So you wanna be a HOT MOMMA do ya?
Button-up: F.21, Jeans: Vigoss (seriously need to get myself some for real cropped skinny jeans instead of make shifting these ones ghetto-style all the time), Flats: Thrifted, Glasses: F.21
I’ve been asked by several people now to do a post on Cute MOM Outfits… the kind that are quick, comfy & functional, but still sexy – in that effortless, understated kind of way, that screams ‘yes i’m a mom, but no that doesn’t mean i only ever wear a t-shirt & sweats, nor does it mean i take an hour to get ready every time i need to jaunt to the grocery store’!
DISCLAIMER: albeit i hope to one day be in your shoes, i am not yet a mother. Because of that, i realize i cannot fully empathize with your situation, & therefore run the risk of posting something here that is not helpful at all. If that ends up being the case, please forgive me & try not to swear off my blog forevs? Please? What i CAN relate to is wanting to look chic & stylish without having to think too hard about it, spend too much time on it, or sacrifice comfort or functionality. And i think we can ALL relate to that, RIGHT? The following outfits are the types that i personally always resort to when i want to be comfy, need to get ready quick, & still wanna look adorbs.
So you ready for PART 1 of the ‘HOT MOMMA Outfits’ series?
ALL HOT MOMMAS NEED THE FOLLOWING:
a) a few Fab Button-up Shirts
b) Flats
c) A few Comfy-over sized-but-still-adorable Sweaters
Button-up: H&M, Jeans: Vigoss, Oxfords: Thrifted (Steve Madden!), Glasses: F.21
Button-up: Thrifted, Jeans: Vigoss, Flats: Burlington Coat Factory, Glasses: F.21
Why these work:
-button ups & sweaters are singular pieces that don’t require the brain-power involved in layering or matching, etc.
-you can easily pair them with your fave pair of jeans & it works just about every time.
-button ups & sweaters are COMFY as HECK and allow for full functionality.
-button ups & sweaters are roomy enough to work for all sorts of days: bloated days, ‘i’m on my period’ days, ‘i ate like crap last night…and the night before that… and the night before that…and the night before that’ days, etc.
-button ups & sweaters come in all sorts of patterns, colors, designs, etc… so it’s easy to find ones that are REAL adorable & interesting & that can look super SEXY all by themselves – in an effortless, ‘i look this good without even trying’ kind of way.
-FLATS work well because: um, does this really need an explanation? They’re FLATS! Comfy as can be, & boy do they ever have some adorable ones out there these days! Finding functional footwear that is still sexy as death is easier than it ever has been.
Some Potential CONS:
-over-sized, comfy sweaters aren’t always the most figure-flattering. Because they’re not form fitting, there’s always the risk of looking ‘larger’ than you truly are. I might have done well to avoid horizontal stripes, which can make you look wider. So try to pick sweaters that can still flatter your hot figures without having to be tight!
-we’re moving into the warmer months, which may EX out sweaters & button-ups altogeths. Stay tuned for some ‘warmer month’ options as well. (p.s…I’m a cold-blooded animal & am basically freezing at all times, so i wear sweaters & long sleeve stuff year round, espesh if i’m wearing shorts on bottom. If you’re the same way, these options can work during any month of the year!)
One More Notable Thing:
-most of this stuff i got at the THRIFT STORES (cuz you know how i heart the thrift store goods), so don’t think that you gotta go out and spend a butt-ton of moolah to be a HOT MOMMA either! I’ve accumulated these items over time, & most of these purchases individually were well under $10. Not too shabby.
Sweater: Thrifted, Jeans: Vigoss, Flats: Macey’s
Sweater: Target (clearance), Jeans: Vigoss, Sandals: Thrifted
Sweater: Thrifted, Jeans: Vigoss, Flats: Thrifted
Sweater: F. 21, Jeans: Vigoss, Glasses: F.21
So, what do you think? Can you use some of these ideas?
GBO to all these here ensembs?
(Aaaaaaand Yep – sometimes THIS happens ^^)
Stay tuned for Part 2 of the ‘Cute MOM Outfits’ series, in which i’ll throw out a few more ideas of how to be a HOT MOMMA!
Thanks for stopping by!
xoxoxo

I dig the outfits. Especially the button ups but here is my delima, I live in a place where you can fry an egg on the sidewalk year round, so long sleeves and jeans is pretty much out. Second delima, when one is breastfeeding we need those hoohas to be easily accessible but they are abnormally large at the same time so the trouble is finding cute attire that allows them to be easily accessible while trying not to look like a hooker mom with abnormally large kahoonas. Something to think about for your #2.
hmmmm… good call Aubs. i will indeed think bout that for part 2 🙂 luv u
Well, you’re all set to be a Momma. Now you just need to get those eggs of yours fertilized! 🙂
I love them all. I especially am in love with the flats. I chase toddler twins around daily, and come on……anything with a heel is just out of the question. With that being said, I also don’t want to look what my mom would call “frumpy” in a pair of old tennis shoes! Thanks for the tips!
I love it! My favorite is the red and black checker button up and the light blue grey sweater. I especially love that the messy bun looks fabulous. Hadn’t thought to spend two extra minutes on a cute bun instead of throwing on a hat. I look forward to your cooler options. All this is so very helpful! Thank you my style expert 🙂
I meant I look forward to your warmer weather options not “cooler options.” I was thinking about how they would make feel like cool in the heat.
LOVE the first look. You look oh so fine in those red flats.
Yes, I love these looks for mommas and I have to agree 100% about the ease for breastfeeding comment… that is my main styling motivation is finding something that is easily “accessible” for the babe that doesn’t create a bunch of layers for me to move around. I have loved over-sized shirts or sweaters with jeggings/leggings too for maximum comfort while lifting/moving/nursing/feeding/crawling/chasing and all other mothering activities. Way to go Shanay!
I think they are cute. Just be ready to go through all of them in one day, Especially if you have a baby that spits up a lot like I did. I went through at least 3-4 shirts a day. Talk about Mt. Washmore (laundry, that’s what we call it at our house)
The outfits are tots adorbs. My dilemma is that of a comment above. The nursing thing. Button up shirts are hard for the whole nursing situation. So I find myself wearing lots of downeast-esque shirts in every colors under the sun. Not the cutest, but practical. Sweaters work, but I swear I have a “uniform” of skinny jeans with boots or flats and a colored, fitted tee. Can you say boring?
Super cute, Shanny girl. Especially love the blue check outfit – those shoes too! Darling. Yes, when I’m looking to get dressed, I’m looking for comfy tops with a flattering fit, and something I can easily wash, because I get spit up on alllllldaylong. And then I remember how I have nothing like that and want to cry. 🙂 I’ve found the longer shirts/leggings thing just makes me look pregnant, but it’s been ages since I’ve tried a button-up shirt, since the “ladies” grew two cups with Carson and have never gone back down 6 years later. I’ll have to give it a try again. And I think you’re right on the money with the flats! I live in them, and they can really cutesy up an outfit.
Love the red and white striped shirt!

I agree 100% with living in flats. I can attest that I take it one step further and mostly throw on the old flip flops to be honest. I live in HI so that’s a given, right? And while I’ve never been “mommy” in weather that necessitated sweaters and jeans I can agree that they are my go-to when it is cold outside, baby or not. (yay for skinny jeans!!) Nursing a little one would be a bit tricky in a sweater though. I’d opt for a v-neck that is a bit stretchy for whipping out the boobage but keeping it “modest” (no g’s flapping in the wind). Let’s get a little Shannon here so you can practice, ‘eh?
First, I have to tell you how much I enjoy your blog (and seeing you model helps too! 🙂 )……Okay, so although I’m a Mom, I’m far from the “comfy Mama” since my no-longer-a-baby baby girl is in school (pre-pre-K) while I’m slaving away at work….okay, not really, I’m fortunate to get to spend most of my day in the office. With that being said, I like to dress up as much as possible, and I still wear my stilettos and wedges pretty much daily. Buuuuut, I still feel qualified to give my opinion on “Mom Outfits” since I’m a Mom, and I do have my “comfy” days.
So….
I like all your button down shirts with skinny jeans, although I really liked how they look when your top is tucked, to me it looks less “frumpy” (I hate to use that word though). All of your flats are suuuuper cute too! And you almost have me wanting to go check out the thrift stores here (but I have a hard time with the smells in there … ). I also love sweaters with skinny jeans, but for me personally (and I’m not quite as small as you are) I like to buy mine one or two sizes too big to help with them fitting a little awkward and hugging the wrong places (plus it makes legs look nice and long/thin 🙂
Last thing….. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the glasses!!!! 🙂
I think you nailed it!!! Love the bun too, that is a definite go to for me!! I love the first outfit a lot! Cute design on shirt, and then the pop of color with the shoes!! The grey dolman sweater I love too. Very comfortable, but has great shape!! When you know you are going to be running around all day with the kiddos, flats or even a small wedge is a must!! You are too cute! Xoxo
Good idea for a post my friend! Most days I really want to be cute but those really busy school days I throw on a T-shirt and jeans and feel glad I’m dressed. 🙂
Your outfits, I love them all. Esp. the checks and stripey and purply Target sweater (how that one fits), esp. love the red check pattern b/c it’s striking and laid back at same time, and great flats with each outfit. To be honest I don’t think I would wear the animal print, it’s just not me as much, but it looks fabulous on you.
I have never worn ankle skinnies, might have to try some soon but still love the long skinny look. Love your hair and your FACE and esp. that smile, and looking so sophisticated with the glasses! 🙂 You are my favorite fashion consultant and humanitarian developement girl. What is Mentors International going to do without you?
When I graduate I am going thrifting per all your advice. So BRING those summer posts!!
PS keep me updated on how certain items are supposed to fit. I don’t get out much in the fashion world these days, so I need you to consult on what is hip without having to browse around forever online or in stores.
And you should do some husband posts every now and then but not UBER stylish stuff necessarily, just casual everyday, business, and church looks for the mountain-hunting-fishing-sports men that don’t care about fashion and hate looking too trendy–stuff they will wear and feel normal in but look extra good, y’know? Think about it!
